Hey There Delilah – Grammy Nominated Song Focuses On Steeplechaser Delilah Dicrescenzo

Delilah DiCrescenzo is headed to Eugene this summer to compete in the 2008 Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field after meeting the qualifying standard in the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase. But before she does that, she will make a trip to Los Angeles to attend the Grammy Awards. Delilah, the runner, is also Delilah, the unrequited love interest of Plain White T’s lead singer Tom Higgenson. Many years ago, when they met through mutual friends, Higgenson told DiCrescenzo that he would write a song about her and they both would become famous. He wrote the folksy ballad Hey There Delilah in 2005 but it did not catch on nationally until this past summer, when it soared to number one on the charts. It has been nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals” category. Higgenson has invited DiCrescenzo to attend the Grammy Awards show, scheduled for February 10th at the Staples Arena in Los Angeles with him. She told NBC’s Today Show hosts Matt Lauer and  Meredith Vieira that she hasn’t been focusing on the Grammy ceremony though – she said “I’ve been concentrating on my training for the Olympics.”  For more on her Today interview, click here
